2020 was a successful year for the tree planting industry in B.C., or as CBC called it, its “healthiest year ever”. As an industry there were zero COVID-19 transmissions. This was also the first year where tree planters banded together across companies to donate money to local food banks in the towns that housed them. These funds were donated to assist families and individuals dealing with financial uncertainties due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Collectively in 2020, Zanzibar’s staff (tree planters, supervisors, and the owners) donated $14,500 total, which was divided by 12 communities. Donations came from staff donating a portion of their earnings.
With another season starting on the coast and the interior field season on the horizon. Zanzibar will be adopting the food bank B.C. fundraiser as an annual contribution to support the communities where crews stay. Zanzibar looks forward to another healthy planting season, and thanks all the staff that helped pull off one of the most challenging season to date, all while giving back to local communities.
